What is Tretinoin Cream and Gel?

• Tretinoin Cream and Gel is a prescription medicine used for topical treatment of acne vulgaris.

Who should not use Tretinoin Cream and Gel?

• People with known hypersensitivity to tretinoin.

What should I tell my doctor before using Tretinoin Cream and Gel?

• Tell your doctor if you are using products containing sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid or if you use other topical medication, medicated or abrasive soaps and cleansers, and soaps and cosmetics that have a strong drying effect. 
• Tell your doctor if you have any other skin problems, like eczema or sunburn.
• Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing or will nurse your unborn baby.

How should I use Tretinoin Cream and Gel?

• Tretinoin Cream and Gel is for topical use only.  Do not use in eyes, mouth, or nose.
• Do not expose to heat or store at temperatures above 120°F (49°C).  Keep out of reach of children.  Keep tube tightly closed.

What should I avoid when using Tretinoin Cream and Gel?

• Avoid fire, flame, or smoking during use. 
• Avoid exposure to sunlight and sunlamps and wear sunscreen when sun exposure cannot be avoided.  People with sunburns should not use the product.
• Avoid excessive exposure to wind or cold. Extremes of climate tend to dry or burn normal skin. Skin treated with Tretinoin Cream and Gel may be more vulnerable to these extremes.
• Products with high concentrations of alcohol, astringents, spices or lime should be used with caution.

What are the most common side effects associated with Tretinoin Cream and Gel?

• Skin of certain sensitive individuals may become excessively red, swollen, blistered, or crusted.  If you are experiencing severe or persistent irritation, discontinue the use of Tretinoin Cream and Gel and consult your physician.

What are other possible side effects associated with Tretinoin Cream and Gel?

• Peeling and redness may occur.
• In some patients, areas treated with Tretinoin Cream and Gel developed a temporary increase or decrease in the amount of skin color present. The color in these areas returned to normal either when the skin was allowed to adjust to Tretinoin Cream and Gel or use of the product stopped.
